Ferries from Oban to the Hebrides

The islands of the Inner and Outer Hebrides are some of the great travel destinations in Scotland, especially for climbers and backpackers. But getting there can be a bit of a challenge. True, you can now drive to the Isle of Skye from Kyle of Lochalsh, but unless you’re planning on going that far north on the west coast of Scotland, or if you want to get to one of the other Hebridean islands like Mull or Tiree, a ferry is probably your best bet. Oban, a small town on the coast best known for its whisky distillery, is also the best place to jump on a ferry and make your way out into the islands.

Below is a map showing the ferry routes from Oban and a list of the routes, schedules and prices. Note that though the ferries are very cheap transportation for passengers, taking a car can be quite expensive. Do some research on the island you are visiting, and figure out whether you’ll really need wheels.

After you have looked over the routes, click here for online ferry booking or search here for ferries:

If you are planning on taking more than one of these routes, consider the Island Hopscotch Ticket. It could save you money.
